Lavrenty Gubin was born in Moscow and graduated from the prestigious Lomonosov Moscow State University with a degree in journalism. For over 15 years, he worked as a public relations and marketing executive for a major international gaming company, where he developed a strong interest in behavioural addictions.
In 2006, he co-founded the Responsible Gaming Fund, an initiative that brought together leading Moscow casinos to reduce the social risks associated with gambling. Under his leadership, Russia’s first national helpline and psychological support centre for gambling addiction was launched in 2007, earning international recognition for its commitment to social responsibility.
Gubin’s deep engagement with the study of compulsive behaviour eventually led him to focus on alcoholism – the most widespread and destructive form of addiction. After confronting his own struggle with alcohol, he developed a unique, research-based approach to recovery, which he now shares in this book.
